Nashik: The District EPF Pensioner’s Federation today launched a scathing attack on the huge pension given to former elected representatives for life as against the retired employees getting pension of less than Rs1,000 only.The pensioners in the district on Thursday marched to the office of Nashik Member of Parliament Hemant Godse and condemned the central government’s move for not offering any relief to the pensioners across the country in the recently presented budget.“The former elected representatives are given pension upwards of Rs40,000 per month and here the retired employees are given a paltry sum of Rs865 per month. This is absurd,” Raju Desle, founder president of the Nashik District Employees Provident Fund Pensioner’s Federation, said.“We are not demanding much but only a respectable amount to live. The current pension does not help the senior citizens even to foot the medical bill,” Rajesh Khairnar, one of the pensioners, said.Desle further pointed out that the BJP before coming to power had assured pension of Rs3,000 per month. “The BJP also set up a Koshiyari committee to decide on the pension, but has not shown any respect towards the committee’s recommendations,” he said.“We have been presenting a memorandum to various elected representatives time-n-again but never have the members of parliament or the government has shown any empathy with the senior citizens,” he added.Considering the current inflation and other issues, the pension of Rs3,000, as recommended by the committee was the best solution and the government should have gifted the same to the senior citizens.The memorandum presented to the Godse at his office, by the federation, requested the MP to take part in the discussion on the budget in the parliament and present the demand of the pensioners before the House.
