Unaccounted cash of Rs 6 crore seized in raids by income tax department

NASHIK: Income Tax (I-T) sleuths have seized unaccounted cash of Rs 6 crore and documents and receipts during raids conducted at around 40 premises belonging to 20 doctors in Nashik , Jalgaon and Dhule.“We are expecting to recover more unaccounted income from these doctors. We are finding out whether they have paid taxes on their total income or whether they have not shown their income while filing returns,” the official said. The analysis of documents is taking some time and the raids will take some time to complete. “The seized documents would be examined by the department to ascertain whether they have concealed their income and the amount of unaccounted wealth,” he added.The Nashik region of I-T covers four districts of north Maharashtra, that is Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar districts and eight districts of Marathwada, Aurangabad, Beed, Jalana, Osmanabad, Nanded, Latur, Parbhani and Hingoli. Our searches will continue for one more day,” an I-T official said on Thursday.Over 200 sleuths of the I-T department from Mumbai, Pune and Nashik started simultaneous raids at the establishments belonging to private medical practitioners on Wednesday morning.Sources told TOI that raids are being carried out to ascertain whether the medical practitioners are paying the tax or evading it.“A section of private medical practitioners, lawyers and builders were on the radar of income tax department after demonetisation and searches are being planned at their offices and residences,” the official said.In Nashik, raids were conducted on 20 premises of 10 doctors while in Jalgaon and Dhule search operations were conducted at 20 places of 10 doctors.“We had information that these doctors were evading tax and by concealing their income.
