Community policing, curbing criminal activity, women safety top priority

Besides that, curbing the menace of crime against women is on her priority list. In a bid to bridge the gap between the police and public, community policing would be increased. Now, we also plan to conduct football matches in Malegoan and other parts of the district for the citizens. They too have been instructed to see to it that the people coming to police stations are given good treatment. In the run up to the polls, we are taking preventive action against criminals on record.

Nashik rural police superintendent Arti Singh, who took charge over a fortnight ago, has already visited half of the police stations under her vastly spread jurisdiction. In a conversaion with the TOI’s Santosh Sonawane she unfolds her plans to bridge the gap between the police and general public. Besides that, curbing the menace of crime against women is on her priority list. She has drawn up an action plan to curb illegal activities.What were the first instructions you gave after assuming charge of Nashik rural SP?I have been making visits to the police stations in our jurisdiction, which is spread over a large area. The main aim is to eliminate illegal activities. The in-charge inspectors of all the police stations have been instructed to take all the necessary steps to keep a check on such activities in their respective jurisdictions. The main objective is to maintain peace, law and order all the time. All police stations have been instructed to welcome all people coming with their complaints to the police.How would you keep a check on the same?The additional SPs and sub divisional police officers (SDPOs) are continuously monitoring the working of police stations. They too have been instructed to see to it that the people coming to police stations are given good treatment. Besides this, the concerned citizens can approach senior officials anytime. They can also make use of online citizens portal. There is also a whatsapp number of the rural police which has been widely publicised.What preperations are going on for the upcoming elections?Deployements have been made across the district to ensure free and fair elections. In the run up to the polls, we are taking preventive action against criminals on record. A list of close to 200 people have been prepared who would be either externed from the district or strict preventive action will be taken against them. Police patrolling on foot, motorcycles has been intensified. Action will also be taken for unlawful assembly of people.How are you keeping tab on developments in the remotest parts of the district?The rural police is vigilant across the district. Recently, we conducted a meeting of police-patils of the district, who work at the village level. They have been instructed to report to the police every minor development pertaining to law and order, so that it does not takes a huge shape in the future. On backdrop of the elections, they have been sensitized about their contribution in a neutral way for free and fair elections.What steps would you be taking to maintain social integration in your jurisdiction?We go out and meet the people in all areas. We also hold programmes in which a mix of people from all religions and castes participate. The Malegaon marathon is held every year. It is getting an overwhelming response from citizens. Now, we also plan to conduct football matches in Malegoan and other parts of the district for the citizens. Such things would definitely help in maintaining peace and harmony among people from different communities.What are the other important things on your agenda?Among other things, all measures will be taken to see that crime against women is under control. In a bid to bridge the gap between the police and public, community policing would be increased. We are also planning to set up temporary police chowkies at the weekly bazaars in villages of the district, so that people can come and report. Several other things are on the cards for a visible policing.
