By: Ranjan DasguptaNASHIK: Sitting MP A T Nana Patil and BJP MLC Smita Wagh are involved in hectic lobbying for the ticket to contest the Lok Sabha election from the Jalgaon constituency in North Maharashtra BJP insiders said Girish Mahajan, the state water resources minister and a close confidant of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, will play a crucial role in deciding the candidate for the seat. Jalgaon is Mahajan's home turf.The Jalgaon LS constituency covers the assembly segments of Jalgaon city, Jalgaon rural, Chalisgaon, Pachora , Amalner and Erandol.Mahajan, known to be a master strategist, was instrumental in the BJP's thumping victory in the Jalgaon civic polls last year. They trounced local Shiv Sena heavyweight Sureshdada Jain, who has been controlling the local civic body for over four decades through his Khandesh Vikas Aghadi.Nana Patil had defeated NCP's Annasaheb Satish Bhaskarrao Patil by a record margin of over three lakh votes in the 2014 elections.Though Nana Patil could not be contacted, his supporters said the MP's popularity could be gauged by the fact that the margin of his victory in the 2014 polls increased by over two lakh votes as compared to his win in 2009.A section of the Jalgaon BJP leaders, however, said it would be rather tough him to get the ticket for many factors. Since she has been the ZP president, her network in the rural parts of the constituency is good," a BJP leader said.The district BJP president refused to comment on the issue.
