Aurangabad: Indian porcupine rescued from well in Mangrul

"Indian Porcupine is herbivorous and feeds on fruits, vegetables, roots , grains, mangoes potatoes, onion, bananas, corn and branches. It must have landed into the well during the night while searching for food and water. The unique animal dwells in mountains, tropical and sub-tropical grasslands, temperate scrublands and forests.

Advocacy group Shrusti Samvardhan Sanstha led by environmentalist Kishor Pathak received a rescue call from villager Gajanan Shinde on Saturday evening following which wildlife experts Manoj Gaikwad and Nitesh Jadhav rushed to the spot"The porcupine had fallen into a 40-foot well having some water in it. It must have landed into the well during the night while searching for food and water. The animal was removed from the well using special a rescue arrangement and was rushed for first-aid after informing the forest department officials," Pathak said.Indian porcupine that can grow up to 70-90 cm long and weigh over 35-kilogram is known for its characteristic short spines of white colour located on the back."Indian Porcupine is herbivorous and feeds on fruits, vegetables, roots , grains, mangoes potatoes, onion, bananas, corn and branches.
