Over 50 arrested for gambling in 3 raids across Nashik

Nashik: The city police on Sunday raided three gambling dens and arrested over 50 people under the Public Gambling Act.In the first raid conducted by the Nashik police, as many as 11 people were arrested from a gambling den. “On getting information about the gambling den behind Swagat Society on Jail Road, a team was sent there on Sunday at 2pm. The police, however, confiscated articles and cash worth Rs5,790 from the place where the gambling was being done.In the third raid conducted by the Panchavati police on the ground floor of BZ Plaza building at 5.45pm, 13 people were arrested for gambling. A senior police officer said they have intensified their action against all illegal activities in the city on backdrop of the elections. After the raid, 11 people, including Baban Sayaji Pagare (48), were arrested.

After the raid, 11 people, including Baban Sayaji Pagare (48), were arrested. We also seized Rs17,870 from the spot. All the suspects were later released on bail,” a police officer said.The Panchavati police said that they arrested Mahendra Mistri (55) of Niligari Baug and 28 others from a tin shade behind Dindori Naka taxi stand at 6.45pm on Sunday. The police, however, confiscated articles and cash worth Rs5,790 from the place where the gambling was being done.In the third raid conducted by the Panchavati police on the ground floor of BZ Plaza building at 5.45pm, 13 people were arrested for gambling. A senior police officer said they have intensified their action against all illegal activities in the city on backdrop of the elections. “Hundreds of mischief mongers have already been booked over the past 10 to 15 days under relevant rules of the Maharashtra Police Act or Bombay Police Act,” he said.“The action will be continuous. If citizens come across any illegal activity, they should report it to the nearest police station,” he added.
