They felt that such positive gestures by the party would encourage more women to join politics.“By giving tickets to four women candidates in North Maharashtra the party leadership has sent a loud message that women are equally capable to fight big elections. I strongly feel women are extremely good problem solvers and should be encouraged to shoulder bigger responsibilities,” felt a BJP corporator in Nashik Municipal Corporation, Varsha Bhalerao.Indrayani Patani, an advocate, felt that such steps would see more educated women coming forward to serve the society.“BJP’s decision to give more tickets to women is certainly progressive. We already have two women ministers who are ably managing the country’s defence and external affairs ministries. Women are capable of delivering the goods. Hence, they are being preferred,” she said.According to the director of a Jalgaon-based fashion design institute Sangeeta Patil, involvement of women in the electoral battle is a sign that women are no push overs.“Women have enormous capabilities. In fact, as far as I know Smita Wagh is the first woman to contest parliament elections in the recent history of Jalgaon. She has been working hard as a politician and hence the party reposed faith in her. This will naturally inspire more women to come forward to join politics,” she said.
