Nashik: An assistant training officer in a reputed school off Gangapur Road in Nashik city was has been arrested under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012. The teacher allegedly molested two minor girls from the school. Parents of the girls registered a case with Gangapur police station.“We have arrested the teacher under the provisions of POCSO after parents of the children registered a complaint with us about the molestation of their children,” a senior police officer said.The accused was presented in a local court and remanded in four days’ judicial custody.The parents said the 52-year-old teacher, an ex-serviceman, molested their daughters in the girls’ hostel of the residential school between February 20 and March 7. Other teachers noticed that the girls were both reluctant to appear before this particular teacher and asked them about it. That is when the matter first came to the attention of adults in the school.“The teachers who heard the girls encouraged them to speak to their parents about it. The parents were shocked to learn about the treatment meted out to the girls, especially as the school has children from across the state and indeed the country,” the police officer said. The school management acted with alacrity in handing the accused over to police.The accused was appointed Assistant Training Officer since Feb 2019. The school management learnt that he molested four girls in the short time of his appointment and quickly called a meeting of the Vishakha Committee. The accused resigned from the post and was handed over to police by the school management.
