NASHIK: As many as 50 e-toilets will be inaugurated next month after the city goes to the polls on April 29. Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) had proposed 115 locations across the city for constructing e-toilets. Of these, 50 are almost ready and are likely to be inaugurated in April. The project is being carried out through funds from corporate social responsibility. Since bus stops are also to be constructed for NMC's city bus service, some of the e-toilets will be constructed near the bus stops."Since it is the end of financial year, companies aiding the project through CSR said they would make new funds available in April.Based on the use of these toilets, we install the remaining units," an NMC official said.Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Mahindra and Mahindra, Bosch along with other Mumbai-based corporate companies are involved in the project. Earlier, the e-toilets were going to be built through public private partnership (PPP) model, but the civic body decided to get it done through CSR.NMC has not invested a single penny in the project. The private agencies are involved in supplying, installing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of e-toilets."Bus stops are also coming up so it is better that we arrange e-toilets in the locations according to usage and wherever there is crowd. After the code of conduct is lifted we will inaugurate the first 50 e-toilets," the official said. The toilet and the floor will be cleaned automatically after usage with the help of sensors. The doors of the toilets and lights will be switched on after insertion of a coin. Security will have to be provided by the private company. This system will be particularly beneficial for women who hesitate to use public toilets. NMC is also contemplating on asking the private agencies to employ female security guards.
