Leopard on prowl, attacks two villagers in Igatpuri

On Monday evening, a fire broke out on a hill in Adharwad in the eastern part of Igatpuri. Nashik: Two people, including a woman, were attacked by a leopard in Ashakiranwadi village, Igatpuri on Monday evening.Following this, the forest department is searching for the animal and has laid traps for catching the big cat. The forest department has installed two cages to rescue the big cat and 13 forest officials have been deployed for keeping a watch in the area.“The leopard will be rescued at the earliest. Our seniors have also visited them and took a review of the incident,” a forest official said.

The forest department was informed about it and a few employees reached the spot to douse the flames.Due to the severity of the fire, the leopard came out of its hiding and entered a hut near the hill and attacked its inhabitants. The woman, Kalubai Aagiwale, and a farm labourer, Kisan Bangar, were injured in the attack and were taken to civil hospital.Following the attack, people in the area are scared and have demanded for a cage to be installed by the forest department. The forest department has installed two cages to rescue the big cat and 13 forest officials have been deployed for keeping a watch in the area.“The leopard will be rescued at the earliest. This area has lot of mountain ranges, jungles and farms. We have asked people to be cautious while moving out of their homes. We are also keeping in touch with the injured persons. Our seniors have also visited them and took a review of the incident,” a forest official said.
