Nashik: The Nashik-Aurangabad highway witnessed a scence similar to a Bollywood action film when a three-member police team was chased five robbers in the wee hours of Thursday. The robbers fired at the police personnel upon seeing them approach. Three of the five robbers were eventually arrested after an 8-km chase as their car overturned. Two others, however, managed to give police a slip.While one of them, Rajesh Golasing Tak, a resident of Ganjmal, Nashik was arrested on the spot, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) team at Manmad nabbed Aman Singh of Nashik and Hardeep Singh Tak of Jalna. The police are on the look-out of two others.CP Vishwas Nangre-Patil said, “This case is the best example of prevention of crime by an alert citizen who reported an attempted robbery to police and aided in catch-hold of the criminals.”A prize of Rs 35,000 has also been announced to the concerned police officers and employees for arresting the criminal.The Adgaon police received a call at around 3 am from a jeweller that some criminals had broke into his shop at Vrundawan Nagar. The jeweller was informed about the same by a local resident near his jewellery shop. A police team immediately reached the jewellery store. The criminals got alert upon the arrival of police van and tried to escaped in their hatchback car.Police got the number and description of the car from the jeweller after which an alert was sounded on the wireless system.PSI Dhairyasheel Ghadge of the Adgaon police, during a routine patrol, spotted the hatchback near Siddi Vinayak Chowk on Aurangabad Road and began chasing it. Noticing the same, the criminals started speeding up. After covering close to 8 km they began driving through a kaccha road. The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle, which turned turtle.By the time Ghadge’s team could reach them, four criminals had come out of the car and were pulling out their fifth member who was stuck inside. Watching the police charging towards them, one of the gang members fired a gunshot at the police team. The four criminals escaped in the cover of dark night. The fifth member, upon coming out of the car attacked the police with an axe, but was overpowered.Police said that the other gang members who had escaped returned and charged towards the police team. However, PSI Ghadge took out his service revolver and instructed them to surrender. But, realizing that the criminals could fire at them again, Ghadge fired a shot towards legs of the criminals, who then fled from the scene.Meanwhile, as all the neighbouring police stations were alerted, two criminals – Aman Singh and Hardeep Singh Tak — were arrested at Manmad railway station by a team of RPF. The two robbers were handed over to the Nashik police.CP Vishwas Nangre-Patil said that the main suspect Hardeep Singh Tak, a resident of Janla has 39 cases of thefts, robbery, burglary, dacoities and arms act registered against him in Maharashtra and Telangana.
