Nashik: The supporters of Harishchandra Chavan, the BJP MP from reserved Dindori Lok Sabha constituency, have lashed out at the party leadership for denying their leader the party ticket and demanded that Chavan contest the polls from Dindori as an independent.Chavan had a two-hour long meeting with his supporters at Surgana on Friday afternoon to decide the future course of action after the denial of the ticket.His supporters reminded the party leadership that he has been championing the cause of the tribals of Dindori as MP for 15 years. They warned that denial of ticket to Chavan could cost the party dearly in tribal dominated constituencies like Nandurbar, Palghar and Dhule, which could be a major set-back for the saffron alliance.Chavan said he has sought two days’ time from his supporters to decide whether he would contest the polls as an independent or not. “My workers are extremely peeved that I was denied the party ticket. I will also speak to my loyalists in other parts of the constituency before coming to a conclusion,” Chavan said.The BJP has fielded former NCP leader Bharti Pawar from Dindori.Chavan had defeated Pawar by a record margin in the 2014 elections in the same constituency when Pawar had fought on an NCP ticket.“It is intriguing that the party leadership has preferred a loser of the 2014 polls to contest on a BJP ticket. And the winner was overlooked,” said Chavan loyalist , Kailas Thorat, who is also the Surgana unit office-bearer of BJP.“Chavan was our voice in Parliament for 15 years – and the most consistent one.
