Work for special garden for disabled to begin soon estimation under way

Nashik: The civic authorties proposed a specially designed park for over 3,000 disabled children of the city. The NMC has allotted a space in D’souza Colony for this purpose and is preparing an estimate for the same. The garden department of the NMC is in process of preparing the estimate for the same.An NGO has come forward for the construction and maintenance of the facility. A boundary wall for security, water and electricity, parking area for visitors and other basic infrastructure will be provided by the NMC. The park would have disabled-friendly benches, area for exercise therapy, reflexology path, track for individuals with limited walking ability, lawn, sand and stone zone.The entry to the park will be free for all citizens.

The funds will be given through NMC’s budgetary provision for the disabled.In December, Hausla, an NGO working for the differently-abled, had submitted a proposal to the NMC to construct Maharashtra’s first park for the disabled people, which will have various facilities for recreation and therapy.“We are preparing the estimate for the park. Within 15 days it will be ready,” said an NMC official.Noting that in regular parks the differently-abled have limited access to most of the activities, the NGO came up with the idea creating the special park and secured the nod from authorities.The park will be beneficial for people with different types of disabilities like physical disability, visual impairment, hearing impairment, balance disorder, intellectual disability, mental and emotional disability and development disability. The facility wil be build on the lines of Louis Braille Park in Hyderabad.The officer informed that audio description for activities taking place in the park, large print/accessible print symbol, instructions and description in Braille, sign language interpretation symbol, assistive listening systems, universal information symbol, telephone typewriter symbol international symbol of accessibility will be there to guide the disabled visitors.
