Mandal in Nashik’s Ravivar Peth uses road accidents as theme

Nashik: The Sunder Narayan Mitra Mandal Trust has chosen the rising numbers of accidents and fatalities as its theme for the Ganesh pandal at Ravivar Peth, Mandal president Sagar Deshmukh said the authorities have pointed out the rising number of road accidents and fatalities involving citizens and those passing through the city.Nashik is getting a wide network of roads and is a prominent city in Maharashtra. While the city has been attracting many people from various walks of life, the increase in accidents has been leaving life-long impact on the minds of the people and affecting their families, said Deshmukh. The pandal has showcased the importance of safe drive, safe life. The mandal has put up life-size statues resembling the plight of road accident victims to create awareness among people.The accidents occur due to bad driving habits as well as poor infrastructure. There are people who speak on phone while driving, many people drive in an intoxicated state, engage in rash driving, drive on the wrong side of the road etc which lead to accidents and loss of lives, said Deshmukh. Through the decoration we are appealing to citizens to do their little bit towards safe driving and ensure the safety of others, said Deshmukh. The mandal has always carried out awareness drive among people by focussing on population explosion, AIDS, drugs, girl-child, among other issues. However, many mandals have erected pandals without seeking permission. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has issued final NOCs to 630 mandals, with some still pending payment. The number of mandals has increased in certain zones, while the Gandhibagh zone has seen a decrease. Additionally, the NMC has taken action against shops selling PoP idols. In other parts of India, Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations focus on socio-cultural themes and eco-friendly practices.Man dies in road accidentA 23-year-old man died in a road accident near Dewas Naka, Indore. He was riding a two-wheeler with a friend when they were hit by an unidentified four-wheeler. Both sustained injuries, but the man was declared dead at the hospital. The police are trying to identify the vehicle involved in the accident.
