Industry captains rue potholes, poor infrastructure for commute

Nashik: Roads in Ambad and Satpur industrial areas of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and in Nashik city have deteriorated, following the latest heavy spell on Friday and Monday. The condition of the road from the traffic signal near Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan to Veer Savarkar swimming pool has worsened.Potholes have also resurfaced on roads in parts of Cidco, Khutwad Nagar, Nashik Road, Jail Road, Panchavati and Satpur divisions of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC).Swapnil Patil, a resident, told TOI traffic jams have also occurred due to poor roads in some parts of Cidco division. According to Ambad Industries & Manufacturers Association (AIMA), the civic body spent Rs 5 crore to repair potholes on various internal and major roads in the industrial areas, however potholes keep appearing. In the industrial areas of the city, poor road infrastructure is the major issue. Most of the roads are of poor quality and have not been re-laid for many years. The condition of the roads have further deteriorated due to recent rains, said Nikhil Panchal, president, AIMA.NMC officials said potholes will be filled with murum and construction debris. We will fill up potholes with tar once the rains are over, said an official. The Indian Oil Corporation Limited has been ordered to supply Bitumen Ready Mix products for the repair and improvement works. Opposition leaders have criticized the mayor for failing to provide basic facilities, particularly in regard to roads.PWD to complete restoration of pothole ridden roads in Lucknow before DiwaliThe public works department in Lucknow is working to restore the citys arterial roads before the Diwali festival. After heavy rain, many roads were damaged with potholes. The department identified 99 affected stretches and deployed 40 teams to complete the restoration work. Over 50km of roads have already been restored. The department is also focusing on restoring roads connecting Lucknow with neighboring towns and districts. A total of 107.820 km of roads have been restored so far, with the remaining 105.94 km to be completed by November.
