Jewellery worth ₹40L stolen from store in Ahmednagar

Nashik: Unidentified burglars broke into a jewellery shop and stole gold jewellery worth nearly Rs 40 lakh from the Saraf Bazaar area of Ahmednagar city at 4am on Sunday.The Ahmednagar police have formed different teams to track down the burglars involved in the crime.The burglars arrived in a car, broke open the jewellery stores shutter, stole the valuables and fled. According to the jeweller, the thieves made away with gold jewellery weighing approximately 400 grams, said inspector Chandrashekhar Yadav.The burglars also stole the digital video recorder from inside the store. There was no security guard appointed at the store, nor was there an alarm system that could have alerted people in the area, said personnel of the Kotwali police station in Ahmednagar.The jewellery market area has three security guards. These guards were apparently patrolling the other parts of the market when the burglars broke into the jewellery store using a jack and other instruments. By the time the security guards reached the spot, the burglars had decamped. The police also reached the incident spot as soon as the theft was reported by the security guards.Prakash Lolge, the president of the jewellers association, said, Another burglary had occurred in the same market about seven months ago. There are a large number of jewellery stores here. However, the owners are reluctant to appoint security guards. There are only three security guards for the entire market. The CCTVs installed by the jewellers also cover only the space next to the shutters. The CCTV cameras should have been fixed in a manner that provided a proper view of the road in front of the shops as well, said Lolge. They gained entry by drilling a hole in the banks wall. The theft was discovered when the branch manager opened the bank in the morning. A case has been registered, and a special investigation team has been formed to find the culprits. In other news, burglars in Vizianagaram and Bobbili stole gold ornaments and cash from houses, and a man in Chennai was arrested for cheating a woman.
