NASHIK: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has decided to withdraw bus services on some of the routes across the city on permanent basis.The state transport utility has decided to withdraw 45 schedules during the ongoing summer vacation. But unlike previous years, these schedules would not be re-introduced again.Under one schedule, a MSRTC bus plies on more than one route several times daily to pick and drop passengers. Cutting down of schedule means the buses would make fewer trips.The MSRTC has been bleeding while providing city bus services and has been requesting Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) to dole out financial assistance. But the latter has so far not responded on the issue."The NMC is not interested in sharing losses and it is increasingly becoming a huge problem for the MSRTC in providing bus services to the city. The NMC must shoulder this responsibility like many other civic bodies in the state do. But since we cannot abruptly withdraw the services at one-go, we are gradually curtailing it. This move to slash 45 schedules is one biggest decision that we have taken as far as city bus service is concerned," a senior official form the MSRTC central office said.The MSRTC cuts down the schedules of city buses during vacations. Last year, the MSRTC cut down 21 schedules.
