Farmers to file plaint against district administration

NASHIK: Farmers agitating against land acquisition for the Nagpur-Mumbai Express Highway , also known as Samruddhi Highway , have decided to register cases against the administration for carrying out forceful measurement of land without their consent and threatening them. "Officials claim they have completed joint measurement of the land except in Shivde village and surrounding areas. These cases prohibit the accused - currently 42 from the district - from going to the site of land measurement and getting bond from two renowned people who will guarantee of good behaviour of the accused.

Our question is how they managed to do it when farmers are opposing it and have registered their protests and objections," Raju Desle, who is spearheading the agitation in Nashik district, said.Desle, secretary of Maharashtra Rajya Kisan Sabha , convened a meeting of the farmers on Saturday. How can we sit quietly when our only source of income is being snatched," said Vinayak Harak , one of the farmers who attended the meeting under the banner of Jameen Bachav Sangharsh Samiti.Desle said the farmers have decided to register their complaints with the police against concerned officials accusing the latter of carrying out land measurement in the wrong manner."The farmers had already registered their objections. The same will be used as a tool against the administration. We think that the police will not entertain us and if it happens, we will register our cases in the court saying the police are not cooperating," Desle said.The process of registering the cases will begin in few days. Meanwhile, the farmers have decided to form village level committees to raise awareness among masses and to mobilise people for the rally to be held on April 26 at Shahapur in Thane district."For the next two days we will be appealing the farmers to gather and conduct meetings and chowk sabhas in the villages to raise awareness among the masses. We have decided to from committees with specific role of dealing with administration, the police, arranging for transport and others," Desle said.Over 3,000 farmers are expected to attend the rally at Shahapur where farmers from all the 10 districts, from which the Samruddhi Highway is expected to pass, will be registering their attendance to raise their voice against the government.Leaders from Opposition parties and other organisations are also likely to participate to express their support to the farmers.
