Nashik gets 54.5 mm rain in a day

NASHIK: The monsoon has finally revived in Nashik and north Maharashtra after taking a long break of about 10 days, with the city receiving 54.5 mm rain till 5.30 pm on Saturday while more rain is likely in the next 24 to 48 hours.According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the next 12 hours are crucial, especially for Nashik district. With this, rain of varying intensity will continue to drench several parts of the state.Skymet also said that rain and thundershowers are likely to further intensify during the next two-three days. "The southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of north Arabian Sea , parts of Saurashtra and Gujarat, remaining parts of central Maharashtra and Marathawada in the last 24 hours.

This means, several places in the district including Nashik city, are set to receive heavy to very heavy rain," said R B Mankar, a senior official in the local weather observatory.The IMD has also issued heavy rainfall warning for north Maharashtra in the next 48 hours."The southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of north Arabian Sea , parts of Saurashtra and Gujarat, remaining parts of central Maharashtra and Marathawada in the last 24 hours. Active monsoon will bring more rain to Pune, Mumbai, Nashik and other parts of Maharashtra," says a notification on the IMD website.According to private weather forecaster Skymet, similar monsoon conditions are likely to prevail over the region for the next few days. With this, rain of varying intensity will continue to drench several parts of the state.Skymet also said that rain and thundershowers are likely to further intensify during the next two-three days. This means, Maharashtra is likely to record moderate to heavy spells of rain in the coming days.
