By NASHIK: An 11-year-old brain-dead girl's father agreed to donate her vital organs, benefiting four people, including one each from Mumbai and Pune.The noble gesture of the girl's father, Ramesh Shelke, a farmer from Shivde village in Sinnar taluka, will also help one or two people from Nashik to regain their sight with the help of the donated eyes.The girl collapsed suddenly on September 15, after which she was admitted to two different hospitals. It was found that supply of oxygen to her brain had stopped due to some complications. Despite doctors' best efforts, nothing could be done to restore her oxygen supply .On Tuesday , doctors at the Dr Vasantrao Pawar Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Nashik, declared Tejashree brain-dead. She was brought to Rishikesh Hospital on Wednesday morning, whe re all her organs were retrieved before they were sent to different hospitals.Rishikesh Hospital is one of the centres in Nashik that is authorised by the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre ( ZTCC ), Pune, to perform retrieval of organs for transplant.Transplant coordinator of Rishikesh Hospital, Sanjay Rakibe, told TOI that Nashik police created two green corridors to transport some of the organs to Mumbai and Pune."The heart was sent to Fortis Hospital in Mumbai by road.Initially, the plan was to airlift the organ to Mumbai from Ozar Airport in Nashik. However, the plan was fell through due to the heavy rain in Mumbai," he said. Similarly , the liver was sent by road to Pune's KEM Hospital and one of the kidneys was sent to Ashwini Sahakari Rugnalaya in Solapur "The liver and kidney were dispatched in an ambulance from our hospital. After both the organs arrived in Pune, the kidney was transported in another vehicle to Solapur," Rakibe said.The second kidney and the eyes were taken to Nashik-based Apollo Hospital and Manishakner Eye Hospital, respectively .
