Besides screening movies and short films, this year the festival is also focusing on various aspects of film-making.The seminar on film appreciation, conducted by academician Hrushikesh Ingle, presented different shades of filmmaking on Thursday."What we see on-screen is in fact the synchronization of various aspects of filmmaking which one has to understand to master the skill of film appreciation. It's a skill to show very normal sites and pictures in from our surroundings in a novel way. The person interested in film appreciation should develop an ability to analyze the sense of novelty in a filmmaker," said Ingle, who teaches film appreciation at the English and Foreign Languages University of Hyderabad.During his interactive workshop attended by more than 250 film enthusiasts, Ingle showed some clippings from movies like Sholay and Sairat to explain the innovations used by directors. The workshop was followed by the launch of a web series 'Artizens' made by Nashik-based artist Jayesh Apte. "Artizens is dedicated to the Indian art. Artizen means skilled artists and it is the compilation of 12 episodes on different artists performing their art forms," he said. Artists Sandeep Londhe, Ragini Kamtikar, Kirti Bhavalkar, Aparna Kshemkalyani and many others are included in the series. In the evening, Kathak exponent Deepa Bakshi interacted with the audiences on various aspects of classical dance. One of the pioneers of the parallel cinema concept in India Girish Kasaravalli gave the inaugural lecture on Wednesday. In his speech on Wednesday, Kasaravalli appealed to young movie buffs to appreciate realistic films. "It's unfortunate that the celluloid is considered as a platform to show hyperbole in India. We don't even accept realistic movies. On the other hand, we blame filmmakers for making films promoting unrealistic stupidity. This trend should change to bring maturity in filmmakers," he said.He appealed to movie lovers to watch documentaries and short films as many novel concepts are being introduced in these fields compared to conventional filmmaking. On Friday, well-known producer-director Umesh Kulkarni's will screen his movie, 'Kumbh', at 8pm and will interact with the audience after the show. Besides, 33 movies will be screened at Vishakha Hall of Kusumagraj memorial from 10.30am onwards. Screening will also be held in the adjacent Swagat Hall, during the evening session.
