One-way, a rule motorists don’t like in Indirapuram

  • | Saturday | 19th May, 2018

Ghaziabad: Following the inauguration of the Hindon Elevated Road in March this year, which connects Raj Nagar Extension to Delhi, traffic police made the road connecting Hindon barrage to Kanawani bridge in Indirapuram one-way to avoid wrong-side driving by motorists. This potholed road is quite narrow and meant for traffic moving from Vasundhara to GT road. However, all sorts of heavy vehicles, including trucks and buses, besides cars and motorcycles move in both directions. “Around 100 constables will soon join the traffic wing and once that happens, cops will be deputed in two shifts so that the stretch is never left unmanned.” I have seen even parents ferrying their children to schools driving in the wrong direction on both sides of roads running parallel to Hindon canal in the morning.

However, this has not stopped vehicle users from sticking to their practice of flouting rules.Except for the rush hours, when cops are present and are managing the stretch, commuters seldom follow the one-way plan for the road leading from Kanawani bridge. They cover the 1km stretch to either approach the elevated road to go towards Delhi or to move towards GT Road.A similar situation is again witnessed on Gurudwara road running parallel to the Hindon canal on the opposite side. This potholed road is quite narrow and meant for traffic moving from Vasundhara to GT road. However, all sorts of heavy vehicles, including trucks and buses, besides cars and motorcycles move in both directions. Here, too, vehicles cover a distance of 1km to while driving on the wrong side.Alok Kumar, president of Federation of Association of Apartment Owners (Ghaziabad), said, “It is sheer foolishness on the part of motorists. I have seen even parents ferrying their children to schools driving in the wrong direction on both sides of roads running parallel to Hindon canal in the morning. Not only are they putting theirs and their children’s lives in danger, they are also imparting them with wrong lessons in traffic rules.”Kumar also blamed the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) for their failure to build a road connecting the elevated road from Indirapuram to UP Gate. The traffic police, on their part, have deputed cops on the exit and entry points of the elevated road in Indirapuram to deal with this situation, but they are not present there in the afternoon. When contacted, traffic inspector Ramesh Tiwari said cops go on break in the area for three hours between 1pm and 4 pm. “Around 100 constables will soon join the traffic wing and once that happens, cops will be deputed in two shifts so that the stretch is never left unmanned.”
