NOIDA: While the juvenile observation home is once again in bad light after a 17-year-old suspect lodged in the home died at Meerut medical college after contracting tuberculosis, doctors and observation home staff have pointed out how lack of doctors and a permanent nurse is hampering juvenile care in the home. While three doctors were nominated for the observation home in 2015, only one – Dr Narendra Tiwari -has been visiting the home since the order was issued three years back when the UP government was forced to order nomination of doctors after an Allahabad high court order. In its order dated May 8, 2015, the court had directed the additional director, Medical and Health Services of the UP government to depute doctors to all the protection homes in Lucknow. The court had also expressed concerns that despite the doctors having been deputed by the chief medical officer (CMO) Lucknow to visit the protection homes twice a week for medical examination of suspects, the doctors who had been deputed had not been performing their duties sincerely.Subsequently, the UP health department directed that all the protection homes should have doctors visiting every week.Dharmendra Maurya, craft teacher who is officiating as the superintendent at the Noida observation home in absence of superintendent Nem Chand told TOI that there is no permanent post for a doctor in the home.“After an order from the CMO, three doctors were nominated to regularly visit the home twice a week such that one doctor is present on six days of the week. However, only one doctor is visiting the hospital so far,” he said.Dr Narendra Tiwari, who has been facing the heat post the incident rued that he was being targeted.“Isn’t it a harassment that the only doctor attending the home regularly is being targeted?
