‘Private agencies hired by Noida Authority have failed so far’

Noida: Residents and RWAs have come down heavily on the Noida Authority for outsourcing majority of its civic work, such as sanitation and road repairs, to private agencies. While Sector 18 sweeping work is going on, due to the strike by sanitation workers, most of the sectors’ sanitation work is stopped,” he added. They say hiring of the private agencies for civic works have yielded little result.“Maximum sanitation work of the health department like cleaning of the sector, including drains, sewers, roads, parks etc are all given to contractors. “As a result, work is always kept pending like no cleaning of our sector for the past 19 days,” he said.“Since the authority lets out work to private contractors, these results in barely any accountability of the work scheduled,” said N P Singh, president of Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA).S K Jain, president of Sector 18 market association, said, “The services of private contractors are however not at par. The horticulture department also gives maximum work like maintaining of parks, watering of grass and plants, pruning of trees, installation of open gyms in parks etc to private contractors,” said Sanjeev Kumar , RWA general secretary, Sector 51.“Since the health and sanitation workers remain on strike often, the sectors reel under garbage,” he added.Amit Gupta, a resident of Sector 77, said while the sewer department also outsources work for repair and maintenance of sewer lines, “sectors 74 to 78 are all tended by private contractors”.
