We then decided to use our own e-challan system for storing these details now. We have sought access to their system so that our e-challan system can pick up the data and forward the same to Vahan,” he said. However, past experience shows that getting access to someone else’s database is not easy.“The company handling the database of violations on the Yamuna expressway had said that the cost of getting access to the same would be between 50-60 lakh. Noida: The traffic police is all set to link the e-challan system with the Vahan software of the ministry of roadways so that a traffic offender is issued a slip containing previous violations, if any, on CCTV-manned routes like the Yamuna expressway This means that an offender who violates the speed limit on the Yamuna expressway will be issued a history of violations since April 16, 2018, when the e-challan system was launched. For this, the traffic police is in the process of linking the e-challan system with all the intersections where digital cameras are installed. The policeman present on the spot will upload the photograph of the nameplate of the vehicle committing the violation on the Vahan software and get details like registration number, etc.Once the details match, a history of violations in the e-challan system will be automatically shared with the Vahan database SP (traffic) Anil Jha said that the data of violations on the Yamuna expressway has been updated since the beginning of the e-challan system on the expressway.“Similarly, we are trying to get the data of violations at the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway with the help of the private company managing the Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS) there. The same company is handling the HTMS,” Jha said. The other intersections manned by cameras like the 31/25 intersection and Sector 57 intersection also have to be linked with the e-challan system.Further, to avoid setting up different systems at all these intersections where manpower will also be required, the traffic police wants to set up a centralised server at its office in Sector 14 A so that the data from all these can be saved at one location. This too will take time as the traffic police needs to get connectivity for transmission of the data using optical fibre. As BSNL’s slow-speed would not have allowed the transmission, the traffic police has initiated talks with Reliance to provide the connectivity using optical fibre.
