GREATER NOIDA: Nearly 20 days after the inauguration of Eastern Peripheral Expressway , toll collection is yet to begin on the stretch as toll plazas are yet to be installed at many points between Dasna and Chajju Nagar (Chainsa) on the expressway. TOI found as many as 10 cuts between Dasna toll plaza and Chhaju Nagar points. However, on Saturday, toll collection did not take place at most of these points between Dasna and Chajju Nagar (Chainsa). The vehicle will be charged anything between Rs 25 and Rs 1,380 depending on the length of the journey. For example, a vehicle driver can pay toll tax at Dasna toll plaza and can show the toll slip at the rest of the toll plazas till Palwal.

GREATER NOIDA: Nearly 20 days after the inauguration of Eastern Peripheral Expressway , toll collection is yet to begin on the stretch as toll plazas are yet to be installed at many points between Dasna and Chajju Nagar (Chainsa) on the expressway. Though NHAI sources said that toll collection was supposed to begin only on June 15, hardly any toll was collected in the past two days.In most places, toll operators are handing over slips to commuters whom they stop with a gesture as there are no barriers to stop vehicles. As per NHAI rules, a vehicle is expected to pay toll on eight points on the EPE at Jakhauli, Mavikalan, Dasna, Duhai, Bilakbarpur, Maujpur, Fatehpur Rampur (Sirsa) and Chhajju Nagar (Chainsa) across Haryana and Uttar Pradesh . The vehicle will be charged anything between Rs 25 and Rs 1,380 depending on the length of the journey. For example, a vehicle driver can pay toll tax at Dasna toll plaza and can show the toll slip at the rest of the toll plazas till Palwal. However, on Saturday, toll collection did not take place at most of these points between Dasna and Chajju Nagar (Chainsa). A toll operator deployed at Fatehpur Rampur (Sirsa) toll plaza was seen handing over slips to drivers after gesturing them to stop. Moreover, there are some kuccha roads connecting the villages with the EPE which allow heavy vehicles to enter the EPE without paying the toll. One could see trucks wanting to avoid the toll enter the EPE from any of the entry points before Palwal and move forward without anyone noticing where they climbed up on the EPE.These trucks are further helped by the numerous cuts between the two carriageways of the EPE which help them take a U-turn to the nearest exit point. TOI found as many as 10 cuts between Dasna toll plaza and Chhaju Nagar points. Only two cuts on this stretch have been partially closed with channels which help an ambulance or a surveillance vehicle to take a U-turn in case of an emergency. On their part, NHAI officials told TOI that they are in the process of installing the system in toll plazas. Kishore Kanyal , project director, NHAI told TOI that while toll collection system is functional on Kundli and Palwal toll plazas, teams are working to install the system elsewhere.
