Black flags kept aside but farmers plan a bigger stir

NOIDA: Even as the district administration tried to subdue the agitations that could have brought distaste to the VVIP visit on Monday, farmers and other groups who refrained from showing black flags to Prime Minister Narendra Modi have now decided to start a bigger agitation on July 23.Representatives of about 22 groups, including the Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Morcha, Bhartiya Kisan Union and Akhil Bhartiye Gujjar Mahasabha, on Monday met UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath through the district administration to raise the issues of farmers.Sunil Fouji, who spearheaded the campaign against the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, told TOI that 10 representatives of different groups met the CM and raised the issues of farmers, including four times compensation in lieu of land and 10% developed plots.“There are about 20,000 farmers whose land is acquired for the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).
