NOIDA: Three members of a gang, including a woman, who posed as tenants and robbed people, were arrested on Wednesday morning in Sector 47.The accused have been identified as Siddhartha , a resident of Sector 46; Rohit from West Bengal and Nishi Singh, who hails from Badaun. The accused lived in rented accommodations in Noida and swiftly shifted their locations after committing crimes. Amit, the fourth accomplice, is at large.Police said Nishi was in a live- in relationship with Siddhartha. On June 30, she stayed back at some place while the three others visited a house in Sector 49 pretending to be looking for a place to rent. “An elderly woman opened the door. The three suspects struck up a conversation and recced the house. They came to know that the elderly woman and her ailing son live in the house and decided to rob them. They left saying they would visit again in the evening with Siddhartha’s ‘wife’ Nishi,” said Shwetabh Pandey, Circle Officer Phase III.Armed with country-made guns, the three accused reached the elderly woman’s flat at 8.30 pm. She opened the door and welcomed them in without suspecting them. Nishi then called the elderly woman on her phone informing her that she would arrive in half an hour. Meanwhile, the gang members overpowered the mother and her son.Holding them hostage at gunpoint, the accused robbed gold jewellery and Rs 65,000 cash and fled. The police were informed and they traced the accused through electronic surveillance and CCTV camera footage installed around the area. The gang members were later arrested. They siad they would recce houses posing as tenants and rob the occupants.Police recovered two country- made guns, a stolen motorcycle, a gold ring, a gold chain, two earrings, and Rs 20,000 cash from their possession. “The accused were produced in court and sent to judicial custody. We have launched a search to arrest the absconding criminal,” said Pandey.
