Noida: After missing two deadlines in the past two years, the six-lane bridge parallel to the existing Okhla Barrage near Kalindi Kunj is finally on the verge of completion. It will also have a central verge and pedestrian pathways on each side. The new bridge runs between the existing Okhla bridge and the Magenta line metro route. The bridge will be ready latest by November this year, Noida Authority officials said on Friday. The Rs 120cr bridge, commissioned in 2014, was to be readied by August 2016. However, the deadline was later extended to March 2017, and then November 2018.Once opened, it would provide respite to thousands of commuters travelling between Delhi, Noida and Faridabad daily. At present, the existing Kalindi Kunj bridge is the only link between Noida and south Delhi. For commuters travelling from Noida to Delhi, the new bridge is located about 120 metres on the left of the existing bridge and 40 metres from the metro route that connects Kalindi Kunj to Botanical Garden.“We have been watching the construction of this bridge for the past four years.

The traffic on this route has grown manifold and the narrow road which caters to about 1,00,000 vehicles daily is no longer sufficient.SC Mishra, Noida’s project engineer in-charge, told TOI that 90% work has been completed. “We expect the bridge to be ready by November-end. But we have not yet decided about its inauguration date,” he said. The under-construction 574-metre bridge is supported on 15 pillars with a 41-metre distance between the two pillars, and it will have two carriageways of three lanes each. It will also have a central verge and pedestrian pathways on each side. The new bridge runs between the existing Okhla bridge and the Magenta line metro route. The Noida Authority should expedite the construction work,” said Vinod Singh, a resident of Noida’s Sector 45.“This will immensely help commuters who are stranded in traffic jams every morning and evening on Kalindi Kunj Road. It becomes a nightmare if a vehicle breaks down on Okhla Barrage,” he added.
