Woman jumps to death from seventh floor on hospital premises

NOIDA: A 22-year-old woman jumped off the seventh floor of a building located on the premises of district hospital on Monday. She was rushed to the district hospital’s emergency ward but succumbed to her injuries at 11.30 am. The woman’s identity has not been established yet. The police are also not clear about what led her to take the extreme step.The seven-storey building is located next to the Government District Combined Hospital and Super Speciality Paediatric Hospital & Post Graduate Teaching Institute in Noida Sector 30. The building’s three floors are used by the hospital, two floors by the district health department and top floor by the institute as a guest house.Satyapal Singh, a guard, said he saw a woman, clad in a yellow salwar suit, trying to leap from the rooftop. “We raised an alarm and advised the woman to step back. She ignored the advice and suddenly jumped off the floor. She fell onto the construction material, a mixture of gravel and crushed stone, and was fatally wounded. She was rushed to district hospital where doctors declared her brought dead,” he said.An emergency medical officer at the district hospital said the woman had suffered head injuries due to the fall. “The woman was declared brought dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem,” he said.Manish Saxena, SHO, Sector 20 police station, said the police have not found any suicide note or mobile phone from the spot. “No belongings were found at the site. We have sent the body for post-mortem and the report is awaited. The victim’s identity has not been established,” he said. It is not clear if the woman had come to meet a patient or someone else. The police are trying to trace her family members.The building is named as District Early Intervention Centre. There are two lifts and also a stair to reach the top floor. The door on the top floor was not locked. Police said that it appears the woman entered through the same door and jumped off. The police are also examining the CCTV cameras installed in the area.Chief medical officer, district hospital, Ajay Aggarwal said the building does not come under his jurisdiction. Dr A K Bhatta, paediatric institute’s director, said he received information about the suicide. “Only the seventh floor of the building comes under institute. We have no information about the woman’s identity,” he said.
