Man dies after fight, Gr Noida cop suspended for inaction

GREATER NOIDA: A sub-inspector of Ecotech 1 police station was suspended on Monday after residents of Atai Muradpur village blocked the Eastern Peripheral Expressway for an hour. Jagpal soon reached the spot along with six other members of the village to mediate. A fight broke out in which they attacked us and my father got hit on his head with a heavy iron rod. The relatives of Jagpal said the other party told them that they had a setting with the police.The next morning Jagpal was found dead in his sleep. The agitated relatives informed police on Monday morning and held a protest on the Expressway, thus leading to a long traffic jam.

GREATER NOIDA: A sub-inspector of Ecotech 1 police station was suspended on Monday after residents of Atai Muradpur village blocked the Eastern Peripheral Expressway for an hour. The agitated villagers demanded action against sub-inspector (SI) Rampal Singh who did not register a complaint after two parties approached the cops following a brawl that broke out between them on Sunday evening.Jagpal Singh (50), who worked in the agriculture department in Delhi, had been hit on his head by a an iron rod during the fight. His son Dhaneshwar Singh (32) told TOI that on Sunday around 8pm, his cousin Manveer (35) was beaten up by three people Azad (28), Rahul (26) and their uncle Anni (42) for urinating in their fields in Amarpur village. Manveer then called home and asked his relatives to rescue him. Jagpal soon reached the spot along with six other members of the village to mediate. “Meanwhile, Azad and his relatives were joined by Mohit and Rajat along with other people. A fight broke out in which they attacked us and my father got hit on his head with a heavy iron rod. After this, we rang up Dial 100 police but by the time they came, we had already reached the police station,” said Dhaneshwar.According to the villagers, the SI did not lodge a complaint in the matter, instead asked them to reach on a compromise. The two parties were made to sign a mutual compromise letter. The relatives of Jagpal said the other party told them that they had a setting with the police.The next morning Jagpal was found dead in his sleep. The agitated relatives informed police on Monday morning and held a protest on the Expressway, thus leading to a long traffic jam. Later, Ghaziabad SSP Ajay Pal Sharma reached the spot and assured the protesters of conducting an inquiry into the matter.An FIR in the matter was registered around 11am and thereafter the SI was suspended for delayed inquiry in the case. Sunil Kumar Singh, SHO, Ecotech 1 said, “A case has been registered against five persons and a search party has been sent to arrest them.”
