Woman dead at Fortis, kin handed body of man

Greater Noida: A family bereaved by the death of a woman relative was shocked to find a woman’s body wrapped in a white cloth when they reached home from Fortis Hospital The hospital admitted the “error” and returned the woman’s body late in the evening. She died on Saturday, after which the family collected her body and went to her home in Dadri. When they reached home, the family members found that instead of the woman, the hospital staff had sent a man’s body wrapped in a white sheet in the ambulance.The hospital was informed later and the ambulance was sent back with the body. The hospital authorities have taken necessary steps to prevent such incidents in future”.

The family was eventually given the body of Bala Devi.A spokesperson of the hospital said that on Saturday, within a gap of approximately 15 minutes, “two adult patients (one male and one female) died, despite the best care and treatment, at Fortis Hospital, Noida. During the final handover formalities, in spite of our mortuary official’s advice, the family of one of the deceased patients failed to physically verify the identity, as per the established protocol”.It said “the male patient’s body was taken by the family instead. The error was identified soon and was immediately rectified. The hospital authorities have taken necessary steps to prevent such incidents in future”.
