Ghaziabad gives land, AAI begins work for Hindon airport

GHAZIABAD: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has started work on a patch of land provided by the district administration for the construction of a domestic terminal at Hindon air base The AAI had in April this year floated tenders for building civic infrastructure at the air base. “If things go as per plan, the terminal will be ready in two months and by January next year, flight operations can start.”Out of 34,905 sq m of land required for developing terminal, roads and other amenities, AAI will need 22,050 sqm for developing the terminal while the remaining land will be used for developing approach roads and other amenities, which will be undertaken by the state government. Sunil Kumar Singh, additional district magistrate (finance), told TOI on Tuesday that the district administration had handed over the land to AAI after completing the lease formalities with the farmers.“We have handed over about 90% of the total 22,050 square metres of land to the AAI, while the remaining land will be given shortly because lease agreement with some farmers could not be signed as they are out of town,” he said. A stretch of 700m road between Bhowpura and Sikandarpur will be broadened from six metres to nine metres while another 60 metres of road leading to the terminal will also be developed by the state public works department.In addition to this, the electricity department will install five transformers of 100 KvA each in the area.The GMC have been entrusted with the responsibility of installing streetlights on the road leading to the terminal.
