Fever clinic set up as viral infection cases see spike

NOIDA: Hospitals across the city are reporting hundreds of viral fever cases on a daily basis. The district hospital , which has an OPD footfall of over 3,000 people daily, has set up a separate fever clinic to tend to only fever patients.Dr Ajai Agrawal, chief medical superintendent (CMS), district hospital, said about 50% of the OPD patients coming there are reporting viral fever.“A separate fever clinic has been set up next to the emergency ward to segregate those reporting viral fever from other ailments. While there has been a dip in vector-borne diseases like dengue, chikungunya and malaria this year, most patients visiting hospital OPDs have complained of high fever and cough. While around 200 patients turn up at the OPD daily, as many as 150-160 patients show symptoms of viral fever.”A spokesperson for Jaypee hospital, Sector 128 too said there were a lot of cases of viral fever were being reported, adding that a specific number of such cases was not available. “Many of the children are reporting symptoms like high-grade fever, flu and nasal congestion,” SSPHPGTI medical superintendent Dr Shekhar Yadav said.The situation is the same in private hospitals across the city as well.Dr Nikhil Mehrotra, medical superintendent of Sector 137’s Felix Hospital, said, “Around 80% of our OPD patients are reporting symptoms of viral fever, including high-grade fever, flu and cough.
