Humidity is making Noidawallahs sweat it out indoors

If not on the roads, the Noida resident runs on the treadmill to stay fit. Apart from leading to traffic jams and making daily commute difficult, the rain and humidity has also thrown the workout routine of Noidawallahs out of gear. While the rain has rendered the city’s parks unusable for running and jogging, the humidity has also made working out outdoors difficult. Sadhna Sinha, a resident of Sector Beta 2, says, “The rains have really messed up the condition of our society park. It is very irritating.” He adds, “Since I am unable to go out, I have started spinning at the gym.

Apart from leading to traffic jams and making daily commute difficult, the rain and humidity has also thrown the workout routine of Noidawallahs out of gear. While the rain has rendered the city’s parks unusable for running and jogging, the humidity has also made working out outdoors difficult. So, the city’s fitness enthusiasts have modified their workout routines and taken up gymming , indoor cycling and yoga classes.Since the weather has prevented Aman Puri, a resident of Sector 34, to go on his weekly bike ride, the Noida resident has switched to indoor cycling to keep up his stamina. He says, “I usually go for a run at the Noida Stadium as it is a big, green space where one can run without any hassle. However, since the last one month, my routine has gone for a toss, thanks to the weather. I would also cycle on weekends with my group, but lately, many rides have been cancelled due to bad weather. It is very irritating.” He adds, “Since I am unable to go out, I have started spinning at the gym. Though it helps me keep up my stamina, it is not half as fun as riding on the roads.”Kanchan Lohiya, a resident of Sector 93, says, “I have always been into outdoor sports and playing volleyball after a long hectic day is a must for me. I also love my morning run and I feel that the day is incomplete whenever I skip it, which has become frequent these days. I have started gymming though, but for people like me, who have always been into outdoor workout, gymming is no fun. You meet the same set of people, do the same set of exercises. I don’t find it motivating.”Yoga and zumba are among the options Noidawallahs are going with to avoid humidityFor Rekha Sharma, a resident of Sector 93A, running is like coffee. If not on the roads, the Noida resident runs on the treadmill to stay fit. “I run for 13 to 14km every day. A little rain has never deterred me from stepping out of the house, but this has changed in the last few weeks when it rained heavily almost every day. I would run when it is drizzling but it gets difficult to step out in heavy rains and that is when I resort to the treadmill. Due to my joint pain, I avoid getting on a treadmill, but the recent rains didn’t leave me with much choice. I take breaks, but do the same distance on the treadmill too. You can’t let the weather dictate your fitness,” she says.Ashish Purwar, a resident of Sector 120, says, “We don’t take cycling as an exercise. It’s like a fun outing for us. It helps us de-stress and helps us catch up with our friends. For me, any other form of exercise cannot replace cycling. But since one has to remain active, I have started doing yoga in the morning. My workout routine these days is a mix of everything, I do yoga in the morning and running in the evening, only when it is not raining. I do a bit of cycling too when the sky is clear. It is definitely hard to maintain a routine these days.”Instead of gymming, many Noida residents have taken up yoga and zumba till the weather gets better. Sadhna Sinha, a resident of Sector Beta 2, says, “The rains have really messed up the condition of our society park. The tracks are broken and waterlogging is also an issue. It was a routine for the women of our society to run and exercise in the park together, but the practice has stopped ever since the rains started. Until the situation improves, we have started doing yoga indoors. We get together in the evening, when most of us are back from the office, to do yoga. Though most of us are taking part in the yoga sessions, the rhythm of the group is broken as many are not turning up.”Pooja Wig, a resident of Sector 93 B, says, “Every evening, yoga sessions are organised in our society’s park, but the practice has been suspended due to rains. I took up running in the meantime, but that too didn’t work out due to bad weather. Now I have taken up zumba to stay fit. We do high-intensity exercises that help me stay in shape.”Ritual Dahiya, a resident of Sector 104, says, “I used to do aqua zumba twice in a week along with my routine runs. But, since I am unable to do both of these activities these days, I have opted for zumba classes.”Shabina, a zumba trainer, says, “The aqua zumba sessions have been reduced to nil these days. And they are organised only if the venue has an indoor swimming pool. Ever since the rain started, people are avoiding getting into the pool. Most of my clients have switched to indoor zumba. Seeing the demand, we have started a new high-intensity zumba session where we do workouts like lunges, push-ups etc with fewer breaks.”Priyanka Gwin, another Noida resident, says, “I would also take part in aqua zumba sessions at least twice a week. But since it is raining, the aqua zumba session hasn’t been organised in our society for the last few weeks. To compensate, I have started taking up zumba classes. It is not as much fun as compared to aqua zumba, but it is better than joining a gym and doing the monotonous cardio exercises.”
