NOIDA: The Aqua Line that will connect the twin cities of Noida with Greater Noida is nearing completion. On Wednesday, the deputy commissioner for metro rail safety (DyCMRS) carried out the first phase of inspection which, according to officials, was “good”.This inspection that included a full trial of the metro was part of the two-day test of the rolling stock of the entire corridor. The rolling stock test includes testing of the public announcement system, public information system, emergency evacuation measures, fire sensors, volume adjustment, manual line selection etc.“DyCMRS Ram Kirpal inspected the rolling stock and safety mechanism of the Aqua Line for nearly six hours. It included a check on the brake system, communication of operators from one coach to another coach through the main operating panel. Dy CMRS also checked the light system, free movement of doors and action of doors during emergency,” said an official.“The inspection has been good so far. But, the report will be shared with the Noida Metro after the full inspection of phase II which will include the full line inspection. The second phase of the inspection is to be undertaken within a few days, after which it will be decided whether the corridor is ready for commissioning by October-November,” he added. The DyCMRS will share his observations with the CMRS, officials said. The CMRS is the highest authority that takes a call on a metro corridor’s readiness for commissioning after checking all the technical aspects and security mechanism. While so far, the Aqua Line had been witnessing full-fledged trials under the supervision of the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), it is now awaiting a go-ahead from the CMRS. The launch of the network will not only significantly change the way Noida and Greater Noida commute but also the way they are perceived, both as business destinations and places to live.An operational Aqua Line, along with the recently launched Magenta Line, the existing Blue Line and the Blue Line extension (from Noida City Centre to Sector 62), will give Noida a total metro coverage of 47km — among the highest in the country if existing lines and expansion plans are taken into account.
