GHAZIABAD: A 64-year-old man died in a hospital in Ghaziabad on Friday after being allegedly assaulted by the prospective parents-in-law of his daughter. An FIR has been filed against the accused and cops are investigating the case.Rajendra Munde, a resident of Radhey Shyam Colony in Muradnagar , was in talks with a family from Modinagar for the marriage of his 23-year-old daughter Preeti, police said. The prospective bridegroom’s family visited Munde’s house on Friday afternoon for talks about the marriage. Sources said the discussion took an ugly turn when both families failed to agree on a few conditions for the marriage. Munde was allegedly thrashed during the quarrel.He was admitted to a private hospital for treatment around 4pm. His family approached cops and on the basis of a police complaint by Preeti, an FIR was registered three members of the prospective bridegroom’s family under sections 323 (assault) and 452 (house trespass after preparation for assault) of the IPC at Muradnagar police station the same day. Munde died later in the evening.“From preliminary inquiries, it seems the complainant’s father collapsed during the fight. There were no visible marks of injury on his body. It is not clear yet whether he died due to the assault. The body has been sent for an autopsy. The results will determine the cause of death, following which further course of action will be taken,” Ghaziabad SP (rural) Arvind Maurya told TOI.Police said charges of murder will be added to the FIR against the accused if the autopsy report establishes assault as the cause of Munde’s death. Investigations are underway to find out the reason behind the quarrel.
