GHAZIABAD: In separate cases burglars decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 13 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively, from two homes in Kavi Nagar In the first case, the bungalow of the chairman of UP Udyog Mandal was targeted on Friday night when he and his younger brother, along with their family members, had gone to Delhi to attend a marriage function. Notably, the businessmen brothers’ house is located near Rajya Sabha MP Anil Agarwal’s house.Ashok Arora, chairman of UP Udyog Mandal, said the family had left home around 9 pm on Friday and returned around 2am on Saturday. On opening the door, they found the doors of the kitchen and balcony open and a cupboard in one of the bedrooms broken.“A close scrutiny revealed that Rs 60,000 in cash and jewellery worth Rs 12.5 lakh were missing. It looks like the job of an insider who knew where money and other valuable items were kept, as the robbers targeted only one room in the entire house,” he said. An FIR has been registered and a guard and a servant have been detained for questioning, sources said.In the second case, a three-storied building of a retired central government official was burgled in Chiranjeev Vihar when he had gone to Nagpur to stay with his son.Mahesh Narayan Sharma, a retired senior archivist of National Archives of India, and his wife had been living with their son in Nagpur for the past one-and-a-half months.“On Thursday, I got a call from my neighbour that the door of my house was broken. I came back found doors of three floors broken and rooms ransacked. Cash and jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh are missing,” Sharma said.
