Truck uproots pole, several sectors in dark for 15 hours

NOIDA: Residents of Nithari D block in Sector 31 and some nearby small pockets of sectors 30 and 34 faced a 15-hour-long power cut as a pole fell in front of the Nithari water tank after a truck accidentally rammed into it late on Friday evening.The driver fled with the vehicle soon after and the repair work could not be carried out till Saturday afternoon as most labourers were on leave. The work also got further delayed due to continuous showers from Friday to early Saturday morning. We could only fix the pole by 1pm on Saturday. Till then, the power remained cut in the area,” said R K Goyal, project engineer, work circle 2.Residents of the three sectors, including Sector 36, also had to face disrupted water supply till Saturday afternoon. “We did not get proper water supply on Saturday morning. The pressure was very low and we had to resort to stored water for daily chores,” said Rani Singh, a resident of Nithari.S C Arora, deputy general manager, Jal and sewer department of the Noida Authority told TOI that water supply could not be pumped up to the tank in the area due to the absence of power on Saturday morning. “The water supply improved on Saturday evening after we were able to pump up the water to the overhead tank after the power supply resumed post afternoon,” he said.
