GREATER NOIDA: A bicycle-sharing initiative has been launched in Gaur City as a healthier and eco-friendly mode of commute within the 235-acre society. Now, residents can rent a bicycle using a mobile application at the rate of Rs 20 per hour. A total of 35 cycles have been positioned outside Dada Dadi Park and at the plaza market.Sana Haider, a resident who runs a playschool in the township, said that nowadays, she rides a cycle to go buy things for the household.Priti Pandey, another resident, said, “It enables us to commute to other shopping complexes, which are far from ours.”A mobile application called Mobycy was launched on September 27 to provide a green atmosphere to residents. The app allows residents to make payments in the prepaid mode and a cycle can be unlocked using a QR code obtained via the app. Riders are expected to cover distances of 4-8 kilometres but there is no time limit to the facility. Each cycle is equipped with an advanced lock technology so that one does not require a key to unlock it. Other features such as cashless wallet payments, geo-fencing, and machine learning have been incorporated, too. “Additionally, the app lets you find the nearest bike available on rent,” said a resident.Sandeep Dwivedi, a resident, said that the rider’s safety was also ensured by providing a helmet and an anti-theft feature that kept track of where the rider was going. After a ride, the cycle can be parked anywhere, on pavements and other spots, but not inside private compounds.“The initiative is getting a good response, mostly in the morning. Joggers and other residents are excited about riding cycles,” said Manik Lal, the security guard outside Dada Dadi Park.“Now, residents do not have to waste resources in expensive or difficult-to-access transportation. They can simply cycle — a healthier, cheaper and eco-friendly alternative,” said Manju Gaur, the director of Gaurs Group.“The cycles will be maintained by the township. We are also planning publicity events to increase residents’ participation and to ensure less traffic congestion within the society,” a spokesperson of the group said.
