Ex-gym trainer, friends try to burgle sealed mall, held

GREATER NOIDA: Three men, including a former gym trainer, were arrested for attempting to break into a sealed mall in Greater Noida’s Habibpur village in the early hours of Wednesday.The accused, identified as Manvendra, Krishna and Deepak, were arrested from the spot.All the three are residents of Khedi village in Surajpur Police officers said Amrapali Mall had been sealed three years ago due to legal issues and is not operational at present.Uday Pratap Singh, SHO of Ecotech III police station, said they received information about some youths trying to break into the mall in the early hours of Wednesday. The accused had arrived in a car and were trying to break the seal of a bank branch inside the mall and enter the premises.A police team reached the spot at 2.45am and found a Maruti Swift parked near the mall. They found the trio inside the mall looking for goods and valuables. The police team called for backup and arrested them.Several iron rods and lock-breaking instruments were recovered from their possession. The Swift car, which was also stuffed with stolen iron rods, was also seized. During interrogation, Manvendra said he had worked in the same mall as a gym trainer a few years ago. However, he was not able to meet daily needs with his meagre salary and quit his job. He later roped in two other accomplices from his village and decided to steal goods and valuables from the mall and bank branch.Police said the shopping mall has been closed for three years.“Primary investigation showed that the accused were trying to steal goods and valuables and sell them as scrap. They were booked for concealment of stolen property under Section 414 of the IPC. They were produced in court and sent to judicial custody on Wednesday afternoon,” Singh said.
