Last week, representatives of Tech Mahindra Ltd had filed a complaint against a job racketeer in Phase II police station. The complainant said the accused had made email addresses similar to those of the company to dupe job seekers.According to the complaint, Deepanshu Rajput, a resident of Turab Nagar in Ghaziabad, received an email from rk.tyagi@techmahindrajobs.com informing of a job opportunity in the company. After Deepanshu expressed his interest, the accused sent him an “offer letter”.To facilitate his placement, Deepanshu was asked to pay Rs 1,600 as registration fee and Rs 8,000 as training fee to a Paytm account. When he reached the Tech Mahindra Ltd office in Noida Phase II with the offer letter last week, he was informed that the office hadn’t offered him any job.Phase II police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating the case.Ajay Pal Sharma, SSP (Gautam Budh Nagar), said the number of job frauds is increasing in Noida. “We have conducted raids at several fake call centres and busted them. We have also arrested many gang members in such crackdowns. We will launch an online campaign on social media and inform job seekers to be alert,” he said.Employment websites like TimesJobs.com and Shine.com are already conducting awareness programmes on their portals. Ramathreya Krishnamurthi, business head, TimesJobs and TechGig, said tall promises are often made to job seekers, most of which come from unreliable sources.He said one good way is to check the e-mail address of the sender. “Job seekers should only respond to e-mails that come from company domains, not from personal e-mail services like Gmail or Yahoo. Applicants must also remember that no recruiter will ever ask for money for a job offer,” he said.
