Woman ‘harassed’ at work, told to leave company for complaint

NOIDA: A 30-year-old woman has alleged that a team leader of a private company in Sector 59 had sexually harassed her for over six months last year. On April 13 last year, my team leader asked me to join him in the cafeteria and professed his feelings for me. The woman, a resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, said she had informed the HR head, but had to eventually leave the company for raising her voice.An FIR has been registered against the team leader and two directors of the company on a complaint by the woman. He followed me inside the elevator and even tried to molest me,” the woman said.The woman said she had approached the head of the human resources team and informed one of the directors of the company, but to no avail. They just wanted her out for raising these objections,” her lawyer said.

The allegations come at a time the #MeToo campaign has spread across several organisations where women have spoken out against alleged harassment at workplace.“I started working with this company in December 2016. On April 13 last year, my team leader asked me to join him in the cafeteria and professed his feelings for me. I found the conversation inappropriate and left the place immediately. He followed me inside the elevator and even tried to molest me,” the woman said.The woman said she had approached the head of the human resources team and informed one of the directors of the company, but to no avail. “They assured me of swift action and even said that an internal committee would be set up to look in the matter. But, months on, nothing was done,” the complainant said.The woman’s complaint also mentioned that on June 29 last year, the director of the company had asked her to “entertain” the team leader if she wanted her appraisal to be done properly.“She was fired in the first week of July, citing ‘poor performance’. They just wanted her out for raising these objections,” her lawyer said.
