Car rams e-rickshaw in market, 6 injured

NOIDA: Six persons were injured when a Honda City rammed two e-rickshaws at a busy market in Harola village of Sector 5 on Monday. The police took the six injured persons to hospital. Three of them suffered critical injuries and were referred to Safdarjung Hospital to Delhi.The injured persons have been identified as Roshan (40), Kaiyaz (35), Jagan (40), Murari lal (55), Surender Mishra (45) and Sheela Devi (52). The driver of the car has been arrested.Police said the accident took place around 5pm when PK Gupta, a resident of Sector 26 of Noida, lost control of the car and hit the two e-rickshaws. But the accused is in police custody,” Singh said.Police said the accused had told interrogators that he had come to Harola to buy vegetables and lost control of his car.

Police said Mishra suffered multiple fractures in his right leg.Jaiveer Singh, the additional SHO of Sector 20 police station, ruled out that Gupta was driving the car under the influence of alcohol and said it was merely a case of rash and negligent driving. “We did not receive any complaint so far. But the accused is in police custody,” Singh said.Police said the accused had told interrogators that he had come to Harola to buy vegetables and lost control of his car. He apparently grew nervous, and instead of applying the brakes, he pressed the accelerator.“Three persons (Surender, Roshan and Jagan) were seriously injured and referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi from the district hospital in Noida,” said Jai Kishan, the in-charge of Harola police outpost.Surendra Mishra, a resident of Sector 44, said the e-rickshaw driver had taken the Harola market saying traffic police had been fining them if they used the Captain Vijayant Thapar Marg.
