GREATER NOIDA: The Allahabad high court has ordered a CBI inquiry into the death of 29-year-old Guddi, who was allegedly beaten and tortured by her parents-in-laws for Rs 5 lakh and a Scorpio. The central agency has been given two months’ time to file its report in the case.In an order issued on October 29, a bench comprising Justice Bala Krishna Narayana and Justice Ravindra Nath Kakkar also pulled up the police for a lax inquiry after the cops claimed that the woman died a natural death. The order came on a writ petition filed by Guddi’s father, who alleged that his daughter was mentally and physically tortured by her in-laws for dowry. The father also claimed that he had brought her to his Kot village house in an unconscious state on May 8 this year and admitted her to a hospital in Gautam Budh Nagar’s Badlapur area, where she succumbed to her injuries on May 13.J P Singh, petitioner’s counsel, told TOI that the court raised serious questions on the investigation report, wherein the police gave a wrong name to the woman and claimed that she died a natural death.“The police had recorded a statement of a doctor from Swaroop Hospital who stated that the patient, named Kajal, was suffering from rectal cancer due to which her life was in danger. But the victim’s name is Guddi and all her documents attest that her name was not Kajal. Also, the cops completely ignored the visible injury marks on her body,” said Singh. The counsel further said the police had informed the court that the woman’s viscera sample was preserved. However, in spite of several reminders, the report is still awaited.Guddi had married Rohit Bhadana, a schoolteacher from Pali village in Faridabad’s Sector 55, in 2011. She was allegedly beaten up with a horsewhip and sharp edged objects by a ‘tantrik’ hired by her in-laws.
