GHAZIABAD: Three persons were arrested on Wednesday for cheating people by taking money from them by offering fake insurance policies . Police said the accused would get money deposited in their own accounts and then stop taking calls of their ‘customers’. The fourth accused is absconding.The trio was arrested in Kotwali following a tip-off. The accused have been identified as Deepak, Vivek and Mobin, residents of Loni, Mohan Nagar and Seelampur respectively. A fourth person, Izhar Ahmad, is on the run. An FIR was registered at Kotwali police station.Twelve registers and three mobile phones containing information about the people they have duped have been seized. The accused duped more than 12 persons across the country in the past six months. They would call them and claim to be representatives from prominent insurance companies. They would then lure them through a cheap plan with huge benefits. In cases where their victims would already have an insurance plan, they would offer to increase the risk cover or to give them gifts for upgrading the plan.Vivek was the mastermind of the gang, while Izhar’s job was to provide bank account numbers to people. He was also entrusted with the work of distributing among other gang members, cops said.
