First full-time regulator for Delhi

New Delhi: The national capital finally got its full-time real estate regulator under Rera with the Lt Governor Anil Baijal appointing former IAS officer, Vijay S Madan as its chairman. Madan will also be Rera chairperson for Chandigarh, housing secretary Durga Shanker Mishra said on Thursday.Till now the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) vice-chairman was the interim regulator under the Real Estate Regulatory Act. Gyan Prakash Srivastava and Ramesh Chandra have been appointed as members of the regulatory authority.“There was a request from Chandigarh administration to have common Rera chief for Delhi and Chandigarh. We had sought the opinion of law ministry and it has cleared the proposal,” Mishra said. The government had given this task to DDA VC in November 2016.

Speaking at a workshop on RERA Baijal said, “I am glad to inform the ministry and the minister that yesterday (Wednesday), we have appointed a whole-time regulator.”Madan was director general of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and he will remain the Rera chief for five years. Gyan Prakash Srivastava and Ramesh Chandra have been appointed as members of the regulatory authority.“There was a request from Chandigarh administration to have common Rera chief for Delhi and Chandigarh. We had sought the opinion of law ministry and it has cleared the proposal,” Mishra said.
