Two central agencies face prosecution for pollution

“We have been laying down stern directives on environment pollution norms as per guidelines of the Supreme Court, the National Green Tribunal as well as the Central Pollution Control Board. The complaints were filed on December 13 in the district court, nearly seven months after a penalty of Rs 10 lakh was imposed on NBCC and Rs 5 lakh on DFCCIL for non-compliance of pollution norms.Earlier last week, the administration had arrested 18 people for flouting dust pollution norms at Gaur City in Greater Noida West. Noida: The Gautam Budh Nagar administration has initiated prosecution proceedings in the district court against two central government entities — Western Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd West (DFCCIL–W) and National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) — for violating pollution norms.Invoking Section 19 of Environment Protection Act, 1986, the administration has taken action against DFCCIL–W for flouting pollution norms at the under-construction western corridor near Surajpur-Udyog Vihar area in Greater Noida and NBCC for the same at the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Institute of Archaeology in Knowledge Park II.“We’ve filed complaints for flouting construction norms against chief general manager of DFCCIL–W and project manager of Larsen and Toubro for the under-construction western corridor; similar complaints were filed against managing director of NBCC India and general manager of Rama Construction for Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Institute of Archaeology,” district magistrate BN Singh said on Saturday.
