Two tie dog to scooter, drag it 3km till it dies; one held

Ghaziabad: A stray dog was brutally killed by two youths who tied it to a scooter and dragged it over a distance of three kilometres from Saheed Nagar to Rajendra Nagar on Friday evening. The dog was breathing heavily when people stopped them.”“Though the dog was immediately rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre in Delhi, it succumbed to injuries. “Very soon, the puppies will be shifted to a shelter home,” Gupta said. The medical report has revealed that the dog had injury marks all over its body. Sahibabad inspector Ran Singh said “efforts are being made to arrest the second accused”.

The dog had given births to five puppies barely 20 days back.Police have booked the two youths — Nafees and Tauseef, residents of Saheed Nagar — under Section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle) of IPC and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act after a complaint was lodged by a member of People for Animals (PFA), an NGO. Nafees has been arrested, police said on Saturday.In fact, the duo was caught by passersby in Rajendra Nagar on Friday evening itself.PFA’s Saurabh Gupta, who got the FIR lodged, said, “Had they not been caught by the public, the dog would have been dragged for several more kilometres. The dog was breathing heavily when people stopped them.”“Though the dog was immediately rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre in Delhi, it succumbed to injuries. The medical report has revealed that the dog had injury marks all over its body. The autopsy is yet to be done. I suspect the dog could have been subjected to unnatural sex also,” Gupta added.Nafees, however, claimed that the dog had bitten more than two dozen people in the area, and he was planning to leave her at a faraway place. But Gupta said there’s a possibility that the dog might have bitten someone in order to protect her puppies.“After giving birth, dogs become quite protective and they don’t like anyone coming near its puppies. It is pure motherly instinct. Despite knowing this fact, the accused tried to separate it from its babies, which is quite appalling,” he added.The PFA has made arrangements of food and shelter for the puppies at Saheed Nagar. “Very soon, the puppies will be shifted to a shelter home,” Gupta said. Sahibabad inspector Ran Singh said “efforts are being made to arrest the second accused”.
