NOIDA: A day after Noida Authority installed tyre killers on the road between sector 74 and 77, they were broken loose early Tuesday morning. We are in the process of fixing the problem and will be eventually making a slope of bitumen road near the tyre killers which will fix the structure permanently and without any loose ends. “They need to be reinstalled by cutting the road, else small cars will get damaged soon,” he said. When contacted, Rajeev Tyagi, general manager Noida Authority told TOI that broken pieces of newly-installed tyre killers were a case of tampering and a permanent solution to the problem is in process. Today, morning they were broken and may cause an accident. Broken at many points, they may cause accident and injury to people.

NOIDA: A day after Noida Authority installed tyre killers on the road between sector 74 and 77, they were broken loose early Tuesday morning. While local residents and commuters complain lack of professional job and call it a hit-and-trial effort, others fear accidents and injury with damage to low floor cars and a need for their re-instalment. Noida Authority however maintains it as pilot work with permanent fixture on sloped bitumen road soon.Even as Devender Singh, resident of JM Orchid sector 76, pointed out the broken tyre killers early Tuesday morning, Avnish Kumar, a commuter, hinted at tampering by unauthorised roadside shops in the area.“Tyre killer speed breakers were not installed professionally and in a planned way. Broken at many points, they may cause accident and injury to people. Either they should do it in a professional way or do not do it. Hit-and-trial can't be done with no accountability. Today, morning they were broken and may cause an accident. This means it was not fixed properly. If it would have been fixed properly, then I don't think it would have come out loose next day morning itself,” said Bharat B a local commuter.Another commuter rued damage to small and low floor cars. “The Tuesday’s incident was a case of tampering. We have spent over Rs 1.70 lakh on this installation whereby it costs us Rs 17,000 per metre with a total of nearly 11 metre strip used in road between sector 74 and 77. We are in the process of fixing the problem and will be eventually making a slope of bitumen road near the tyre killers which will fix the structure permanently and without any loose ends. Then no such problem including, tampering can be done,” said Tyagi. With traffic police maintaining 74,510 challans for wrong side driving for year 2018, tyre killers, especially at U-turns at selected places across the city planned by Noida Authority, are supposed to act as deterrents to wrong side driving. While the structure between sector 74 and 77 was the first to be put up in Noida, other places where tyre killers are planned include most U-turns including sector 77 North Eye junction, sector 76 metro station, sector 61 Sai Mandir U-turn and sector 16-A flyover.Tyre killers are metal strip that acts as a speed breaker for those driving on the right side. But if one is driving on the wrong side, then its spikes puncture the tyres of the vehicles, sometimes damaging them beyond repair. While Pune was the first city to install tyre killers in India, in Noida it is yet to be seen how these strips will be effective in curbing wrong side driving.
